Practin (Cyproheptadine) Syrup

Product Information:

Practin Syrup contains cyproheptadine, a first-generation antihistamine. It helps block histamine, a chemical your body releases during allergic reactions. It’s also known to stimulate appetite.

It’s primarily prescribed to:

• Relieve allergic symptoms (like sneezing, runny nose, itchy or watery eyes, skin itching and rashes).

• Stimulate appetite and support weight gain in people with poor appetite or undernutrition.

How to Take:

Method: Orally (by mouth).
Measure: Use the measuring cup/spoon that comes with the bottle — not a kitchen spoon — to ensure accurate dosing.
Shake: Shake the bottle well before each dose.
With food: You can take it with or without food.

Dosage:

• Adults: Often around 4 mg (≈10 ml) taken 2–3 times daily.

• Children: Lower doses based on age/weight. Not usually recommended under 2 years due to safety concerns

Warnings:

Before taking Practin Syrup, tell your doctor if you have:

• Allergy to cyproheptadine or any ingredient. 

• Narrow-angle glaucoma or eye pressure issues. 

• Asthma, heart, liver, or kidney problems. 

• Enlarged prostate or urinary problems.

• Other medications you take — especially MAO inhibitors or sedatives.

Side Effects:

• Drowsiness / sleepiness

• Dizziness

• Headache

• Dry mouth, nose, or throat

• Impaired coordination
