Product Informations:

Pomalyst works in the body by modifying the activity of the immune system. It increases the amount of certain immune responses, which helps to slow tumor growth. Pomalyst is used for treating multiple myeloma that is caused by a progressive blood disease. It is generally given after at least two other drugs have been used and proven unsuccessful. Pomalyst is also indicated for the treatment of AIDS-related KS when HAART has failed to provide sufficient benefit, or in any patient for whom HAART is not recommended. This medication may be used to treat Kaposi Sarcoma in adult patients who are HIV-negative. Pomalyst is available only through a restricted program called PS-Pomalidomide REMS. Before you start taking this medication, you must read and agree to follow all of the instructions in PS-Pomalidomide REMS. Before prescribing Pomalyst, your healthcare provider will explain PS-Pomalidomide REMS to you and have you sign the Patient-Physician Agreement Form. You must be enrolled in the program and accept the use of birth control measures as needed.

How is Pomalyst taken?

Take Pomalyst exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets. Never share this medicine with anyone else. Take each dose with a full glass of water. Take the medicine at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow the capsule whole. Do not crush, chew, or break a Pomalyst capsule. The medicine from a broken pill can be dangerous if it gets in your mouth, eyes, or nose, or on your skin. If this happens, wash the area with soap and water or rinse your eyes with water. Ask your pharmacist how to safely dispose of a broken pill. You may need frequent blood tests. Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Return any unused Pomalyst to your doctor, or as directed.

Dosage Information:

Usual Adult Dose for Multiple Myeloma: 4 mg orally once daily on Days 1 to 21 of repeated 28-day cycles in combination with dexamethasone until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity Indication: In combination with dexamethasone for the treatment of patients with multiple myeloma who have received at least 2 prior therapies including lenalidomide and a proteasome inhibitor and have demonstrated disease progression on or within 60 days of completion of the last therapy Usual Adult Dose for Kaposi's Sarcoma: 5 mg orally once daily on Days 1 through 21 of repeated 28-day cycles until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity.

Warning:

Pregnancy: Pomalyst has a Boxed Warning for harm to an unborn baby. Pomalyst is similar to the medicine thalidomide (THALOMID). We know thalidomide can cause severe, life-threatening birth defects. Pomalyst has not been tested in pregnant females. Pomalyst has harmed unborn animals in animal testing. Females must not become pregnant: For at least 4 wks before initiating Pomalyst While taking Pomalyst If you stop taking POMALYST for any amount of time (interruption of treatment) For at least 4 weeks after stopping Pomalyst. Female subjects of childbearing potential: Will have pregnancy tests weekly for 4 weeks, then every 4 weeks if your menstrual cycle is regular, or every 2 weeks if your menstrual cycle is irregular. If you miss your period or have unusual bleeding, you will need to have a pregnancy test and receive counseling Must agree to use 2 acceptable forms of birth control at the same time, at least 4 weeks before, while taking, during any breaks [interruptions] in your treatment, and for at least 4 weeks after stopping Pomalyst Talk with your healthcare provider to learn about options for acceptable forms of birth control that you can use to prevent pregnancy before, during and after treatment with Pomalyst.

Pomalyst side effects:

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction to Pomalyst: hives; dizziness, fast heartbeats, difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. signs of a severe skin reaction - fever, sore throat, burning in your eyes, skin pain, red or purple skin rash that spreads (especially in the face or upper body) and causes blistering and peeling. Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of a serious drug reaction that can affect many parts of your body: skin rash, fever, swollen glands, flu-like symptoms, muscle aches, severe weakness, or unusual bruising or yellowing of your skin or eyes. Call your doctor at once if you have: numbness, tingling, or burning pain in your hands or feet; symptoms of a heart attack-vest discomfort or pressure, pain radiating to your shoulder or jaw, nausea, diaphoresis; low blood counts-fever, chills, fatigue, mouth sores, skin sores, easy bruising, pale skin, cold hands and feet, feeling lightheaded or short of breath; stroke symptoms-sudden numbness or weakness (particularly on one side of the body), severe headache, slurred speech, balance problems; signs of blood clotting in the lungs - sharp chest pain, sudden cough, wheezing, rapid shallow breathing, coughing up blood; signs of a blood clot in your leg-swelling, warmth, or redness in an arm or leg; or signs of tumor cell breakdown - confusion, weakness, muscle cramps, nausea, vomiting, fast or slow heart rate, decreased urination, tingling in your hands and feet or around your mouth
