Jardiance, or empagliflozin, is an FDA-approved tablet indicated to improve glycemic control, along with diet and exercise, in adults with type 2 diabetes. This drug is also approved to cut down the risk of cardiovascular events in adult patients with heart failure or cardiovascular disease with type 2 diabetes. Mechanism of Action: Jardiance works by lowering the blood glucose levels, as evidenced by HbA1c, through increasing the excretion of glucose via the urine by helping the kidney increase the amount of glucose passing into the urine. Jardiance instructions include: Jardiance is a tablet taken by mouth. Jardiance is usually taken once daily in the morning. You should take it at about the same time every day. You can take this medication with or without food. Your doctor may begin you on a low dosage of this medication and gradually increase your dosage as needed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Your blood sugar will need to be checked often, and you may also need to test the level of ketones in your urine. This medicine can cause life-threatening ketoacidosis (too much acid in the blood). DOSING INFORMATION:

Jardiance Dosage Used for Diabetes Type 2 Usual: Patients aged 10 years and older. Initial dose: 10 mg PO qDay in the morning. Dose increase: Dose may be increased to 25 mg orally once a day for patients tolerating therapy and requiring additional glycemic control. Maximum dose: 25 mg/day. Usual Adult Dose for Cardiovascular Risk Reduction: Initial dose: 10 mg orally once daily in the morning, with or without food.
