Gamma hydroxybutyrate, or liquid GHB (C4H8O3), is a depressant of the central nervous system (CNS) having a variety of uses and consequences. GHB is mostly taken orally, frequently as a liquid. When recommended for medicinal purposes, it is used to treat diseases like narcolepsy at carefully monitored dosages. Adding the drug to alcoholic beverages, which intensifies its depressive effects, is the usual recreational misuse method.
